“The Engstrand Point of View” Good afternoon my fellow freedom loving citizens. Today Friday May 7, 2010, I want to give some thoughts to yesterdays National Day of prayer that we recognized. Why is it that the atheists and secularists which make up 15% of the population feel we the majority of religious citizens, 85%, must sit and be silent and that a National Day of Prayer should be banned? Why do our government institutions, i.e. the Department of Defense, ban religious leaders like Franklin Graham from participating in the National Day of Prayer yet diminish detrimental actions of figures from Muslim/ Islamic Jihad groups such as CAIR (Council on Arab Islamic Relations)? Ladies and Gentlemen for years a National Day of Prayer was something I thought little about as a Christian. I gave it little thought because I thought my personal relationship with God was all I needed. My thinking was that a National Day of prayer was just another photo opportunity for politicians. I regret my lack of understanding of this day’s significance for our Republic and today I feel I need to be like Paul Revere and scream out loud to all that will hear, the Atheists and Jihadists and Secularists are here and they want to take this freedom away…” (Repeat the Cry).. A great American, Samuel Adams, said the following …….. “Let divines and philosophers, statesmen and patriots, unite their endeavors to renovate the age, impressing the minds of men with the importance of educating their little boys and girls, of inculcating in the minds of youth the fear and love of the Deity and universal philanthropy, and, in subordination to these great principles, the love of their country; of instructing them in the art of self-government, without which they can never act as a wise part of the government of societies, great or small in short, of leading them in the study and practice of the exalted virtues of the Christian system.” I see nowhere in Adam’s quote where our preeminent founder thought a free Republic meant free from religion. So today I encourage all freedom loving Americans to not be complacent, this is your republic and it my friends was founded with the intent to allow freedom of religion and if we want to continue to have a National Day of Prayer and the freedom to worship our Lord and Savior we must not allow those who hate our Lord and Savior or our free republic to silence our Christian Nation. So what should we do? Pray my friends, Bear Witness when the opportunity presents itself and teach your children and grandchildren the reasons to live a Christian life style. A free republic will exist as long as morals, values and ethics based in Christian principles are perpetuated from generation to generation. God Bless all of you and your families. Jim Engstrand |
